Daily Cover: David Gray meets The Killers’ “Smile Like You Mean It”

David Gray is a great singer-songwriter from England. David Gray released his first album in 1993 and has released 8 albums since, including 3 that reached the top of the UK charts, and 3 that cracked the top 20 in the US.

David Gray did one of my favorite covers a few years ago for BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge. He did a great acoustic cover of “Smile Like You Mean It” by The Killers. David Gray’s voice is so powerful, yet soothing. David Gray takes the rock song and strips it, allowing his voice and guitar to carry the song, and he does it well. After hearing the cover, it is almost difficult to remember what The Killers’ version sounds like, David took the song and added his stamp to it.

New Artist: Tamar Kaprelian – “Delicate Soul” Live

I featured Tamar Kaprelian‘s cover of “Apologize” as the Daily Cover earlier this month, and since then, I’ve been listening to more of her music and am very impressed. She has a phenomenal voice, both as a singer and as a writer. I really like what I’ve heard from her so far, and am excited to hear new tunes from her upcoming debut album. She has great potential to be a brilliant singer-songwriter and artist. While we wait for the album, check out this great acoustic version of “Delicate Soul”. Enjoy.

Daily Cover: Steel Train meets La Roux’s “Bulletproof”

Yesterday I posted Kelis‘ version of La Roux‘s “In For The Kill”, today I’m posting an interesting take on “Bulletproof” by a band called Steel Train. Steel Train consists of five members, and will be releasing their next album at the end of June. The album is also called Steel Train and is the band’s third album.

“Bulletproof” by La Roux is such a great song. The chorus is an instant classic and irresistible. I love Elly Jackson‘s vocals on the original, and it is one that cannot be duplicated. The song is a classic and will endure the test of time as one of the breakout songs of 2010. I like the acoustic approach of Steel Train, and give them credit for their arrangement. I do enjoy the cover, but I prefer La Roux’s original, but again, it is a good cover. Take a listen and let us know what you think. (The song starts at the 2:20 mark)
