Tamar Kaprelian and Ellie Goulding at The Roxy in LA (Preview)

I just got back from seeing Tamar Kaprelian and Ellie Goulding at a fantastic sold-out show at The Roxy in Hollywood.. and I’m still buzzing. It was such a great show.

Tamar opened with a great 5-song acoustic set. She sounds really great live and has great stage presence. I wanted a few more songs, especially “March Mornings”… next time.

And Ellie… oh Ellie! It was Ellie’s first show in the US and she was insane. She killed it! She was amazing. Earlier in the day she tweeted that she was feeling sick, but I would never have known from the show. She even did some drumming during the set! It was insane to watch and the audience went crazy each time. She just released her first EP in the US called An Introduction to Ellie Goulding. Hopefully she will release her album (and maybe a few new songs) in the US and will play a few more shows in LA because I need to see her again… I’m seriously still buzzing.

I’ll post a few review, more pictures and maybe some video soon.

Ellie is playing one more show in the US, in New York tomorrow (09.30.10) at the Hiro Ballroom.. grab a ticket right now before it sells out (it will).

Be sure to grab a copy of Tamar Kaprelian‘s album, Sinner or Saint and Ellie Goulding‘s US EP – An Introduction to Ellie Goulding and her UK album Lights. (It’s worth the price…. I’d say skip the EP and just get the album).

Natasha Bedingfield – Strip Me Acoustic Session Clips

In the last few weeks, there have been many great albums I’ve been enjoying and shows I’ve been to but haven’t had a chance to post yet… even with all the new albums, I’m eagerly awaiting the release of Natasha Bedingfield‘s third studio album, Strip Me.

While we wait for the album to be released on November 9th, here are a few stripped tracks from the album.

She sounds amazing. I love the stripped vibe of the tracks. She is such a great singer-songwriter.

Natasha Bedingfield is amazing. She is one of my favorites; an inspiration and a hero. I’ve had the pleasure of attending a concert and having a chat with her, and she is as amazing as she is portrayed.Very kind, sincere and genuine.

It took a while for “Touch” to grow on me, but it is one of my favorite songs. It’s quite different from anything we’ve heard before, but the story/lyrics are very inspiring. I’ve been listening to it a lot and it’s quite catchy.

Her songwriting is very organic and pure, making it universal and easy to relate to. I definitely am at a phase in my life where I’m trying to find myself and my voice, and draw inspiration from Natasha. I also love the way she defines success and her goals. I’m really excited to hear the new album and see how it inspires me to grow and become better.

As if her music wasn’t enough, Natasha is a great philanthropist, lending her celebrity and fame to numerous organizations including Global Angels, and StandUp2Cancer more recently. So inspiring and genuine.

Natasha Bedingfield is amazing, and I’m a huge fan.

Daily Cover: John Legend and The Roots meet Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up”

John Legend and The Roots recently collaborated on an album of cover songs called Wake Up!. Thematically, the songs were chosen based on their messages of inspiration, enlightenment, social awareness and activism. The lead single from the album is a track called “Wake Up Everybody” and features Common and Melanie Fiona.

It has been stated by several sources that the album title, Wake Up!, was inspired by the Arcade Fire song with the same name. The cover was not included on the album, but taking another step from Arcade Fire’s playbook, John Legend and The Roots recorded a concert for AmEx UNSTAGED, and performed “Wake Up!”.

“It’s time to Wake Up! Come on! Come on! Let’s Wake Up! Come on!” – John Legend

I love Arcade Fire. I’m also a big fan of John Legend. And this is brilliant. Some think the cover is not as epic or anthemic as the original, but I disagree. They are both different, and equally brilliant. I love covers, especially cross-genre and unexpected covers. I have the album Wake Up! and while I haven’t spent too much time with it (but do plan on it), I can see why the cover wasn’t included on the album, it doesn’t quite fit, but I’m glad we get to see/hear this cover.

The John Legend and Roots AmEx UNSTAGED show was directed by Spike Lee and also included the John Legend hit “Ordinary People” & “Save Room/Green Light”, The Roots hit “You Got Me” with Estelle, and new covers “Hard Times”, “Little Ghetto Boy”, and more.

Check out some highlights from the Arcade Fire AmEx UNSTAGED show.
