On Monday night, Lauren Pritchard was on The Tonight Show with Leno, playing “Not The Drinking”, from her debut album, Wasted in Jackson, which is finally out. In case you missed it, here is the great performance:
A buddy of mine sent me a link to Boyce Avenue‘s cover of “Teenage Dream”, originally by the newly wed Katy Perry. It’s one of the greatest and catchiest pop songs of the year – whether one likes it or not is a different story. Since it’s a great pop song, it has been covered by numerous musicians and youtubers, including one of my favorites, Cary Brothers (check it out here).
But the cover by Boyce Avenue blows them all away. It’s not only a fantastic cover, but it’s a huge improvement as the guys of Boyce Avenue have changed and added lines, giving the catchy tune some depth and meaning. I’m not sure if this is exactly a cover, but it’s awesome and worth sharing. Take a listen and see if you can get it out of your head.
And if you like the cover, check out Boyce Avenue‘s album, All We Have Left, which was released last June. It’s a great album, with great songs such as “Broken Angel”, “Dare to Believe”, and “More Things To Say”.
This weekend, the top 12 contestants became 11, as John Adeleye was voted off. It wasn’t too shocking, seeing as he had issues connecting with the audience, and sharing his personality. I still don’t understand why Wagner is still in!
And apparently, themes are no longer a factor this season. The night’s theme was “guilty pleasures”, but some of the choices were not remotely guilty pleasure songs. Oh well.
Matt Cardle‘s song choice was “…Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears. And he did an amazing job, taking some tips from the Travis cover. He can really sing anything, and make it his own. It was definitely within the theme.
Rebecca Ferguson was fantastic with her song choice. She looked stunning and also sang well. It’s great to see her open up a little more and grow comfortable on stage.
And for another week, Katie Waissel delivers. Her song choice was rather odd, “King of the Swingers” from The Jungle Book, but she looked super comfortable and performed the hell out of the song. She had fun, and I had fun watching her.
Treyc Cohen‘s “sing-off” song was amazing. She nailed the song, “One Night Only”, and the judges made the right decision (although, I don’t think Treyc is connecting with the audience and only has another week or two on the show).
Michael Buble – “Hollywood”
Cheryl Cole - “Promise This”
Overall, the show is, for me, in a funk. The performances are starting to be very similar week after week. I don’t know if it is because the season started with 16 people, but it feels like each show is way too long. I think the show could stand to lose a few more contestants, (Wagner, Paije, One Direction, and Belle Amie). Some contestants can sing, while others are questionable, depending on one’s taste. And then there’s Wagner…
Next week’s theme is Halloween… it should they stick to it, it could get very scary. (I think Wagner has been doing that theme since his audition!)
