Live Review: Florence and the Machine – Live at The Wiltern – November 8, 2010

On November 8th, I saw Florence and the Machine play the last of her 3 sold out show at the Wiltern. And it was amazing. She was fantastic.

Every single song felt like an encore. Florence has amazing stage presence, and is very tall and statuesque. She’s got an amazing and powerful voice, yet she is very shy and soft spoken. Her songs had the right balance of simplicity and theatrics as Florence pranced around the stage like a ballerina (slightly possessed ballerina at times). It was amazing to see her in her element, and really fell the music. And she has a harpist! How cool is that?!

She played her entire debut album, Lungs, as well as “Heavy In Your Arms”.

Honestly, each song was a highlight. It looks like the concert was recorded, and hopefully it will be released as a live DVD in the near future.

During the introduction to “I’m Not Calling You A Liar”, an audience member asked Florence for her hand in marriage! She said that it wasn’t the first proposal of the tour, and he yelled, “I have a ring”, and she said, “No Way!” and went over to him, and got a ring! After admiring the ring, she told the audience that she would be ok with more jewelery being thrown on the stage! Check out the video:

The crowd was insane during “You’ve Got The Love”.

And absolutely erupted on the final song of the night, the catchy “Dog Days Are Over”. She asked the audience to jump up and down during the chorus, and we were more than happy to oblige.

It was amazing and electric in the beautiful theater. If you ever get a chance to see Florence live, don’t hesitate. She is amazing. It was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to, honestly.

Here are some more and videos from the night, including: “Drumming Song”, “My Boy Builds Coffins”, “Cosmic Love”, “Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)”.

Cheryl Cole – “Promise This” At BBC Children In Need 2010

Cheryl Cole performed a great version of her hit, “Promise This” for the BBC Children In Need 2010 Charity Fundraiser show. She actually sang live, and it was pretty good. It was much better than I expected it, given that she sang live and danced as well.

I particularly loved the slower, guitar/acoustic first bit of the song. I recently got my copy of Cheryl’s latest album, Messy Little Raindrops, and there are some really great tracks on it. I don’t think it is as good as 3 Little Words, but it is still a fantastic pop record. Anyway, when it comes to UK Pop, Cheryl Cole is on fire!

New Music Video: Black Eyed Peas – “The Time (Dirty Bit)”

The Black Eyed Peas are releasing their 4th album with Fergie-Ferg next week. Their last album was called The E.N.D., (The Energy Never Dies) so this upcoming album is appropriately called The Beginning… go figure.

Here’s the music video for the lead single, “The Time (Dirty Bit)” which samples “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” as performed by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes in the 1987 classic movie Dirty Dancing.

What do you think of “The Time (Dirty Bit)”?
