Loving Lykke Li’s new video – acoustic version of “I Follow Rivers” (Live on the Moon)

With every listen, I appreciate the new Lykke Li (twitter) record, Wounded Rhymes more and more. It’s different for sure, but it’s brilliant. There’s so much depth and layers in the album.

“Get Some” was an instant hit, as was “I Follow Rivers”. There are several other songs that have grown on me including, “Sadness Is A Blessing”, “I Know Places”, “Youth Knows No Pain”, “Unrequited Love”, and “Rich Kids Blues”… enough to call it a brilliant album.

I really love the acoustic performances of “I Follow Rivers” – here’s a new one Lykke just posted.

She’s great! I’d like to hear an acoustic album from her. She’s got such an interesting sound and arrangement in her songs, and a great quality in her voice. It’s great – haunting even.

New Single: John West – “Lovely” featuring Pusha T

For the past few years John West (twitter/facebook) has been writing songs and playing shows all over LA, gaining fans along the way with his smooth vocals and soulful music. He’s created quite a name and buzz for himself among the music savvy LA locals, especially with his many performances at the 3rd St. Promenade in Santa Monica.

It was only a matter of time before John West’s music reached the rest of the country.

John West has been working on his debut album, which is slated for a summer release through Mercury/Island Def Jam Records. In addition to recording his major label debut, John West will open for B.o.B and Travie McCoy in the next few weeks, giving him much deserved exposure.

While the album is still in production, John West did gift us with the first single, a great song called“Lovely” featuring Pusha T.

“Lovely” is a great song. It’s got a nice peaceful/chill vibe when you’re listening to it alone. If you’re with a significant other, it can set the tone for a beautifully romantic evening. It’s great for all occasions! And as expected, it’s been very well received, and has even drawn comparisons to Robin Thicke tunes. “Lovely” is a great lead single and I’m excited to hear more from John West.

I’ve been hearing the buzz about John West’s music from friends for a couple of years now and it’s great to see his career take some major leaps forward. He’s undeniably talented and it’s only a matter of time before everyone else finds out about John West and his music…

If you’re in LA, John West is playing at Key Club on Sunset on April 8th. I have a feeling this is going to be one of the last times to see him before he sells out big clubs and arenas… grab your tickets now.

Cover: Diane Birch meets Haddaway’s “What Is Love”

“What is Love” by Haddaway is an iconic and classic song!

The song, for most people, is best known as the song in A Night at the Roxbury, and it’s iconic dance.

One of my favorite versions of the song is sung and arranged by singer-songwriter Diane Birch. She puts her own spin on the song, legitimizing it’s awesomeness.

Bonus Video:

Eminem recently sampled “What Is Love” on “No Love” with Lil Wayne on his last record Recovery. It’s one of the many standout tracks on the album – but really, who whole album is legit.
