The Civil Wars stop by KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic

The Civil Wars (website/twitter) are hands down one of my favorite band/duos right now. Their album Barton Hallow is fantastically phenomenal – one of the best albums of 2011.

Two weeks ago they stopped by KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic and played a killer set. They opened with their hit single, “Poison & Wine”, following it up with my favorite song, “20 Years”.

They followed with more songs, including the album’s title track, “Barton Follow”, and “From This Valley” which didn’t make the album. They also played a cover of “I Want You Back” originally by The Jackson 5.

There’s also an interview, which is insightful and makes me like Joy and John Paul so much more. They’re fun and seem like genuinely great people.

Joy and John Paul have amazing chemistry and are very talented musicians. I can’t help but be moved by their stunning lyrics, passion, and harmonies. They are also amazing live, and their live performances capture their passion – they were born to play music.

I can’t get enough of The Civil Wars.

“Right Now” – New Single from John West

After paying his dues and making the rounds in LA, including 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, John West (website/twitter) is getting ready to release his major label debut later this summer. And judging from the first two singles, this smooth crooner is going to have a summer to remember.

Three months ago John West gifted us with “Lovely”, and now we get to hear his newest single, “Right Now”.

I’m really liking John West’s music and vibe – he’s cool and chill, perfect for a summer beach party.

It’s definitely good to be anywhere John West’s music is playing. John West is playing a few shows, one with Gavin DeGraw and a few dates with Matisyahu - get all the details here.

John West’s album is one that I, and many fans, are anxiously awaiting. Until then, enjoy “Lovely” and “Right Now”.

Cold War Kids – “Skip The Charades” Music Video and “Bulldozer”

The Cold War Kids’ (website/twitter) latest album, Mine Is Yours, has some definite standout tracks. It’s a solid album, but there are three songs that standout.

The lead single, “Louder Than Ever”, is a certified radio-friendly lead single. It’s fun, catchy, and is a good representation of the entire album.

The follow up, “Skip The Charades” was recently released and is sure to follow suit. It’s a fan favorite and worthy of being released as the follow up single. Here’s the brand new video for the tune:

The third standout track, and my favorite from the album, is a fantastic song called “Bulldozer”. It’s got a somewhat slower pace but builds. It’s got great lyrics and sentiment. The song stuck with me after my initial first listen, and has grown since then. Maybe the next single?
