Florence and the Machine have been working on their follow up album for the past few months and are finally ready to share some news and a new song with us!
For starters, the album has a release date – November 7th. Mark your calendars…. November 7.
Today, they also released a new song called “What The Water Gave Me”. They debuted the song on the second night they played at the Greek Theater in Hollywood. It was such a great show and the studio version far exceeds the live version I heard (mainly because it was a first listen at a live venue).
The video gives us a hint as to what the creative and recording process for the new album was. It’s quite interesting to see Florence and the Machine at work, creating the songs that will soon captivate our attention and ears. It’s great to see her jumping around and having fun with the writing/recording process.
And the song is epic! Florence has mentioned that the songs in the follow up to Lungs will have more science themes as seen in “What The Water Gave Me” and in “Strangeness And Charm”. The song is stylistically very true to Florence and the Machine – and is quite epic. It’s got many layers and depth. It will take a few listens to fully grasp the complexity of the lyrics and sound. It slightly reminds me of “Heavy In Your Arms” for some reason… not sure why, but I like it.
“What the Water Gave Me” is fantastic! I’m excited for the follow up album!
