Amazing: Florence and the Machine – Ceremonials

I’ve been listening to Florence and the Machine‘s new album, Ceremonials, non-stop today. I simply can’t get enough. It’s fantastic.

After Lungs, I didn’t know how Florence and her mates were going to top it…. but with the two singles, “What The Water Gave Me” and “Shake It Out”, my expectation were raised.

And after a few listens, I’m pleasantly excited and amused. The album is heavy on drums and sounds very epic and dramatic, which is one of Florence’s strengths. Her voice is immaculate… it’s subtle and soothing at points, yet strong and powerful mere moments later. I’m blown away at how amazing this album is. Wow!

After a few listens, there are several songs that standout including:  the next single – “No Light, No Light” the next single from the album, “Spectrum”, “All This and Heaven Too”, “Leave My Body”. Really, the whole album is amazing. The only song that I’m not to keen on is “Lover to Lover” which doesn’t quite fit with the rest of the album… it’s a bit out of place.

My two favorites are “Heartlines” and “Never Let Me Go”. I also really love the acoustic version of “Shake It Out”… amazing.

Dare I say it… this could be my favorite album of 2011! In February I claimed that Adele’s 21 was the album of the year… but I think Florence and the Machine‘s Ceremonials may claim that spot.
