New Music: Laura Jansen – Elba and “Some Hearts”

Laura Jansen is one of my favorite singer-songwriters. And is one of the nicest musicians I’ve met. Super friendly and down to earth.

There’s not a single song on her debut album, Bells, that I don’t like. All the songs have an honest emotional connection and are bursting with sincerity. In fact, I often find myself singing “Single Girls”, which is weird as I’m a dude. But it’s a great song, and it’s often stuck in my head. “The End” is another amazing song that’s often stuck in my head… it’s an emotional one.

It’s been a while, but Laura is finally releasing new tunes!

The first song we’re hearing from her is “Same Heart”, which features vocals from Tom Chaplin of Keane and is the charity single for 3FM, a great Dutch radio station, with proceeds benefitting the fight against infant mortality.

A great song and a great cause.

Laura will also be releasing her long awaited and highly anticipated sophomore album, Elba, at the end of March in the Netherlands and Europe. Hopefully it’ll get a US release later in the year.

The album is produced by Matt Hales (Aqualung). So far, four songs have been confirmed for the album, including the lead single, “Queen of Elba”, “Same Hearts”, “Call To Arms” with Ed Harcourt, and a live performance of “Pretty Me”. I saw Laura perform “Pretty Me” at Hotel Cafe and it is another emotional, powerful and gut wrenching song. It’s beautiful, and I’m glad she’ll be sharing it with the world, especially a live recording of it.

Laura recently shot a music video for “Queen of Elba”, so hopefully we’ll be seeing a video soon. Until then, download and enjoy “Same Heart”.
